Basalt Harbor
A small fishing village on the West coast of the Kingdom of Cableron and the Coastal Islands.
Terrain
Amongst basalt islands and cliffs there is a valley and a pass that leads inland. The basalt islands that make up the barrier islands keep off some shelter against storms and rougher seas. There are both shallows and deeper potions that offer habitat to a variety of sea life.
Weather
The temperature is tropical with highs in the highs 90s during the rainy season and 70-80s during the dry. The tired joke: “Don't like the weather? Check again in 10 minutes.” is told often as storms form out of nowhere and dissipate just as quickly.
Politics
There is a kingdom appointed sheriff (Baldrick Wentworth). They say that he is a third cousin to some important general or something like that. The only real connection to the kingdom is a tax collector who arrives once a year. The tax collector solicits for positions in the military - but there hasn't been a draft in a couple generations and only occasionally does anyone take him up on the offer. The is a democratically elected governor that the sheriff delegates are real ruling responsibility to. That is currently a positions occupied by Father Gorman of Tyr. Father Gorman also acts a judge and arbiter of disputes in the village.
Tourism
The Altar
The is a black granite altar with two obelisk near the back of the town. As far as anyone knows it predates the town. There is an abjuration aura emanating from them. It is used as a center point various religious services as well as civil ritual. It is not uncommon to see flowers left on the table as an offering. People get married between the obelisk or sign important contracts on the altar.
Sunday Market
Every Sunday there is a small market that forms in the clearing by the altar. Farmers from the surrounding area bring there haul into town, craftspeople who don't operate a regular store may display their wears. It is small and not particularly active.
The Docks
There are piers for fishing vessels. There is one long pier that go out far enough to moor an ocean-going craft, the others can only dock shallow-draft vessels. There are a couple of warehouses that can store goods, but are mostly empty.
The Smoke Houses
Where fish is cured and smoked. There are areas devoted to dry-salt curing, smoking, pickling, and the making of a much prized fermented fish-sauce called Garum.
